Description

Description

In August 2013, Turkish privatization administration, Ozellestirme Idaresi Baskanligi (OIB) finalized the sale and operating rights transfer agreement of 457 MW Kangal thermal power plant (Kangal TPP) in Sivas province to a consortium of Konya Seker Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. and Siyahkalem Muhendislik Insaat San. ve Tic. Ltd. Sti. Kangal TPP began operations in 1989 and accounted for 0.75 percent of Turkey’s installed power in 2013. The project was awarded to Konya Seker - Siyakhalem consortium after making the highest offer of USD 985 million in a competitive bidding conducted by OIB in February, 2013. The tender included sale of the 457 MW coal-fired power plant and operating rights for the mine which supplies coal to the plant. Konya Seker is the subsidiary of Anadolu Birlik Holding. After the takeover from state generation company Elektrik Uretim AS (EUAS) in August 2013, Konya Seker consortium has invested in the rehabilitation of the reactor and plans to raise production by using effective management principles. As a result, since August 2013 to December 2013, gross production increased by 34% compared with last 5 years’ same period results.
