Kaoma aquaculture development project

Kaoma Aquaculture Development Enterprise (KADE) is an initiative of the Koama City Council to promote aquaculture development in the District and the neighboring districts of the Western Province of Zambia. This is part of the Local Economic Development (LED) initiatives of the district to boast local economic growth, job creation and the overall improvement of the livelihood of the communities. The choice of aquaculture value chain is the comparative advantage Kaoma has in developing and improving the existing industry and tapping into the country’s aquaculture development plan and the emerging market of both inputs and outputs to bring the needed economic development to the district. The development goal is to commercialise the aquaculture sector in the district which serves as viable and inclusive business opportunity through enhanced production and productivity to improve the livelihoods of the people along the aquaculture value chain. Approximately $4.9 million will be required implement the business plan. This involves the construction of 500 ponds of 500 square meter (approximately 25 hectare) fish farm for both small holders and lead farms.
