The Karachi Electric Supply Corporation Power Plant Project provides $13.8 million to support improvements in existing steam and diesel stations, the construction of a new 30,000 kw steam station, and substantial additions to the transmission and distribution systems. The project has five components. The first improves the existing steam station by providing replacements and spare parts for boilers, heaters, pumps, and electrical equipment. Switchgear required for interconnection with the new steam station will be added. The second component improves the diesel plant. This plant consists of 19 generating sets, only 7 of which are presently usable. Replacements, spare parts, switchgear, machine tools, and new water coolers will be purchased in order to place 9 of the larger units, including those now in operation, in proper condition for continuous service. The third component constructs a new steam station, which will contain two units of 15,000 kw with 3 boilers operating at 400 lb/sq. in. pressure and 775 degrees F. The fourth component constructs transmission and distribution facilities. The fifth component funds office equipment, business machines, scales, furniture, etc.
