Karachi's transmission and distribution network upgrade

This project involves the extension and rehabilitation of K-Electric’s electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure in Karachi region, Pakistan. The sponsor will use the funds to extend its infrastructure to previously unserved areas within its operational territory and will reduce (technical and non-technical) network losses. The project will also improve the network safety, achieve better integration of renewable power to the grid and increase the capacity of K-Electric's network to draw additional power from the National Grid. Additionally, the sponsor will undertake a rehabilitation and enhancement of its transmission and distribution network in the remote areas of its licensed area in Balochistan. The 7-year, $100 million debt financing was provided by the Dutch development bank FMO ($68.6 million) and Proparco, part of the Agence Française de Développement ($31.4 million).
