Karan Gas Facilities at Khursaniyah Gas Plant

The myth of “Plant Korea” continued The Saudi’s Karan Gas Processing Plant (KONE) project was constructed to provide energy to meet the surging demand for gas in power generation in Saudi. Hyundai E&C won the package contract, the largest and most critical construction in terms of size and process of other four Karan construction packages ordered by Saudi Aramco in March 2009. As around USD 1.42 billion construction, it was the largest overseas contract won by the Korean industries at that time.One of the underlying factors enabled Hyundai E&C to win the contract was the trust of the ordering organization. Our technical competence and knowhow were recognized by the ordering organization by successfully completing the Saudi’s Khuaris Gas Processing Plant (SONE) project in 2009. Moreover, as the employees experienced in the SONE project joined the KONE project, we were able to build a systematic and professional system even from the beginning of the construction.Turned the reliability of the ordering organization to realityThe KONE project was challenging since inlet facilities (gas injection facility) and three gas train construction projects were due at different deadlines.Within just twelve months since we started building the inlet facility equipment, we successfully made a foundation for completion by timely placing the equipment for three gas train facilities within fifteen months. Moreover, we completed temporary accommodations housing 6,000 staffs and workers within seven months of the commencement and temporary shop facilities to process 1 million and 15,860 dia-inch piping and 28,434 tons of steel frame.Accident-free in all processes…perfect constructionHyundai E&C was rated as “Hyundai E&C made it again” from the ordering organization by completing the construction of major facilities right on the time in January 2012. Moreover, we also achieved the great record of “Accident-free in All Process” since the commencement of work in March 2009. It was an impressive achievement in the condition where about 7,000 workers engaged in the project on daily average. Such efforts even contributed to the winning of the Ma'aden Alumina Refinery Project contract in May 2012.
