Description

The Karnataka Urban Infrastructure Development and Finance Corporation (KUIDFC) awarded a Management Contract to the Indian subsidiary of the French company Veolia Environnement, Veolia Water India in April 2005. As per the contract, Veolia Water India would manage the water supply in four cities of Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum and Gulbarga in the state of Karnataka for a fixed Management fee. The broad scope of work included the following: 1. To roll out a water network capable of guaranteeing supply 24 hours a day. 2. To rehabilitate an existing water supply network which was in poor condition due to lack of adequate maintenance 3. Increase household connections, including 10,000 social connections. 4. To increase and sustain the reliability of drinking water services. The project was expected to benefit a population of 200,000. The Management Contract was awarded in 2005 for an initial period of 42 months but then was extended to 59 months. The project concluded in March 2010.
