Kassø e-methanol to e-gasoline conversion project

Green hydrogen-based methanol (e-methanol) produced at the 52.5MW Kassø facility in Denmark has been successfully converted into e-gasoline as part of a German government-funded research project. The DeCarTrans research project converted 86 tonnes of e-methanol into synthetic gasoline at the Kassø facility near the German border. The process was developed by German engineering firm Cac Engineering and the Freiberg University of Mining and Technology. The Kassø facility combines green hydrogen produced using electricity from the adjacent 304MW Kassø Solar Park with biogenic CO2 captured from the nearby Tønder Biogas facility to produce e-methanol with a 97% lower carbon footprint than fossil-derived methanol.
