Information West Central Railway WCR I has come up with Katni - Bina Third Railway Line [279 km] with a ticket size of 2938 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project It is a 278.7 km long coal connectivity Project in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Bina-Katni is critical and busy section of West Central Railway. It helps serve coal rakes for Thermal Power Plants at Chhabra Gugur and Jhalawar in Rajasthan and POL traffic for Mahadevkhedi in Madhya Pradesh. The highest number of goods trains [95 goods trains/day]. This route provides the highest freight to the Railways from coal transportation and the present capacity utilization of the section is 136percentage. At present, due to the double route, many goods trains are stalled to make way for the passenger trains. In view of the growing traffic and detention of crossing traffic, Bina/Mahadev Khedi Katni/New Katni 3rd line is required to augment traffic flow in both directions. Besides facilitating the travel, the thermal Power Plants in the area to get a third line for transportation of materials. It will also greatly ease the ever-increasing freight traffic between Bina-Katni section, thereby, increasing the revenue of Railways. Sagar, Damoh and Katni districts of Madhya Pradesh would also be benefitted through this project. This line, coupled with the proposed third line from Katni to Anuppur, and the third line from Bhopal to Bina, will aid in faster freight movement from Bhopal [Madhya Pradesh] to Chhattisgarh. ?km is being constructed by West Central Railways while IRCON and RVNL have 7km each under execution. Cost was revised from Rs.2,478.23 crore to Rs 2875 crores in 2019. The work between Damoh to Golapati and Lidhora is yet to start. The delay on this route is mainly due to delay in cutting of mountains. Total commissioned length is 58.76 km.
