Started in the 1980s, it was designed to power India's homegrown fighter aircrafts, mainly the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas by Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. The project aimed to reduce reliance on foreign technology by delivering notable thrust and efficiency. However, due to technical challenges including thrust output and reliability issues, the project was shelved in the 2010s, and the aircraft relied on imported General Electric Aerospace's F404 engines instead. |
