Description
Description | Kazan GTS (KGTS) is the monopoly local telephone service provider operating in Tatarstan's capital Kazan with a population of 1.2 million. Telephone services for the rest of the republic is provided by the Ministry of Telecommunications's holding company Tattelcom. As opposed to other regional operators in Russia, KGTS is one of the few which are not a subsidiary of Svyazinvest. It is also Russia’s smallest fixed-line operator. In all Tatarstan, services are provided by the Ministry of Telecommunications, independent of the Svyazinvest Holding. For long-distance and international telecommunications, the Ministry splits revenues with Rostelecom. Kazan GTS has no revenues from long-distance and international services. The company derives 94% of its revenues from basic telephone services, including monthly subscription fees and installment fees. The company was privatized in July 1994, with the share capital split between 2% preferred stock, and 98% common stock. The main shareholders of the company were: Ministry of Telecommunications (29.2%), Tatarstan State Property committe (19.9%), Elemte (10.1%), TAIF (5.7%), Treasury Stock (4.8%), CSFB (4.3%), Central Depositary of Tatarstan (3.9%), others (20.1%). The company was subject to regulation of local tariffs. Kazan GTS holds de facto monopoly for fixed line services in Kazan, although there are some independent service providers for radio-telephony, mobile cellular and other value-added services. Kazan GTS's network is mostly analog. The company completed the installment of a SDH fiberoptic network in 1997. The main shareholders in 2003 were Tatarstan's government (represented by Svyazinvestneftekhim) (40.43%) and Tatfondbank (14.8%). In 2006, Kazan GTS became a branch of Tattelecom, a telecom company which was 100% owned by a state-run investment company Svyazinvestneftekhim (SINKh). http://www.kgts.ru/new_site/ Note: connections are not active, but total installed capacity |
