Kelly’s Brook Shared Use Path

The construction of Kelly’s Brook Shared-Use Path consists of upgrading and connecting the existing walking trail from Kings Bridge Road to Columbus Drive to create a continuous 5.2 km active transportation route comfortable for use by people of all ages and abilities. The project supports transportation equity by filling gaps in current public transit coverage and connecting neighbourhoods and essential destinations with a shared-use path that will attract people of all ages and abilities to walk, stroll, roll or cycle. The route alignment was refined through public engagement and detailed design has already been completed. Some sections of existing trail will be relocated to avoid steep grades and tight turns, ensuring accessibility along the entire corridor. The existing trail will be widened to 3.0 metres. Some sections of the route will be installed along street corridors. The scope of the construction work includes clearing and grubbing, removing existing trail surface, removing and replacing fencing, fill and grading, installing a new trail surface, and reinstating the trail edge. The project includes the construction of rest areas, trailheads, signage and wayfinding. It includes landscaping and may include lighting along the path. Existing access paths from nearby streets will be upgraded, and additional access paths may be created. Street crossings and intersections will be upgraded to create a continuous and comfortable route.
