Description | The Ken-Betwa Link Project (KBLP) is India's first major river interlinking initiative aimed at transferring water from the Ken river basin to the Betwa river basin via underground pressurised pipes. The project is expected to irrigate 10.62 lakh hectares of agricultural land, provide drinking water to 62 lakh people, and generate 130 MW of power. However, it has led to displacement and loss of livelihoods for over 50,000 people in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district, sparking Gandhian-style protests by tribal communities demanding adequate rehabilitation and compensation. |
