Description | The Kenai LNG terminal, owned solely by ConocoPhillips after buying out Marathon Oil, is a liquefied natural gas export facility in Alaska. It began operations in 1969 and was the largest in the world at that time. The facility was mothballed in 2011 but kept open through 2013 due to increased Asian demand. After the federal export license expired in 2013, ConocoPhillips applied for and received a new export license in early 2014. The company planned six LNG shipments in 2014, with some gas sourced from third parties, and also delivered LNG to local utilities. |
