The project will replace the skating rink artificial ice plant. The existing plant was installed in the early 1980’s and the last few years has had substantial repairs when starting the plant for the season. The existing plant is past it’s operation expectancy and not energy efficient and it has been recommended to be replaced. Kenaston is a rural community of under 300 people and the cost to run the ice plant now and to raise the amount to replace the plant would be a great challenge to meet for the town. During the Covid pandemic the skating rink has stayed open for teams, training, and individual skating. The rink is the heart of the community.
