Kenh Dong Water Supply was established in 2003 to build own and operate water infrastructure in Ho Chi Minh City. The project entails building and operating a 200,000 m3/day water treatment plant that is to be completed by the second semester of 2012. Kenh Dong Water Supply Joint Stock Company,the project company has a bulk water supply contract with Saigon Water Corp.(SAWACO) for a guaranteed volume of 150,000 m/day. Kenh Dong Water Supply Joint-Stock Company was established with a charter capital of US$19 million(300 billion VND) by the shareholders: Ho Chi Minh City Investment Fund for Urban Development, now Ho Chi Minh City Finance and Investment State-Owned Company (HFIC), Saigon Water Supply Corporation, Vietnam Construction And Import - Export Joint Stock Corporation, Saigon Real Estate Corporation, Irrigation Service Exploitation Management Company and CII Company, with CII Company's capital contribution accounting for 36% of the charter capital. As of 2010, the construction of raw water reservoirs had been completed, that of the water treatment plant is 53% completed, the installation of the D1200 pipeline 36% completed, that of the D1800-2000 pipelines 95% completed. In 2010 the company contributed another 34.4 billion VND, bringing the total contributed capital to US$7 million (108 billion VND) out of the total registered capital of US$7 million (108 billion VND). In May 2012, Manila Water Company agreed to acquire 49% of Kenh Dong from local infrastructure company CII (Ho Minh City Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company).
