Description | The Kenhardt project is a hybrid solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery storage facility co-developed and operated by H1 Holdings and Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec. It features 540 MW of solar energy capacity and 225 MW / 1140 MWh of battery storage, supplying 150 MW of dispatchable power daily from 5am to 9:30pm in South Africa. The project began supplying electricity to South Africa's national grid late last year and is one of the 10 largest battery storage systems in the world. It avoids an estimated 870,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and demonstrates the role of battery storage in enhancing solar energy across Africa. |
