Description

Description

The Miller Hull Partnership completed a renovation of the Kennedy Library at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California. The project restored the original brutalist design intent of the 1977 building by Robert Marquis, reopening sightlines, improving wayfinding, and enhancing the student experience. The renovation included replacing exterior glazing with high-performance insulated glass, modifying the roof for future photovoltaic installation, removing internal partitions, relocating the cafe, adding exhibition spaces, and installing a new glass-clad staircase to improve circulation and meet seismic and accessibility standards. The project also upgraded mechanical, lighting, fire alarm, sprinkler systems, and accessibility features, achieving LEED Gold certification and reducing energy consumption by 30%.
