Description | Louisville Gas and Electric Company (LG&E) and Kentucky Utilities Company (KU) planned to construct a 400MW/1,600MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) located approximately 10 miles southwest of Downtown Louisville in Jefferson County, Kentucky, at LG&E's Cane Run fossil gas power plant site. The project was to consist of 544 Tesla Megapack 2XL units, with ownership split between KU (68%) and LG&E (32%). The projected cost was around US$775 million, with an expected online date in 2028. However, the utilities withdrew plans for the BESS and instead sought approval to expand their fossil fuel power plants. |
