Kenya - Menengai Geothermal Development Project

The Menengai Geothermal Development Project is situated within the Eastern sector of the African Rift system, about 180 km northwest of Nairobi in Kenya. The project aims at meeting Kenya’s rapidly increasing demand for power while diversifying sources of power supply by developing the country’s huge geothermal potential. More specifically, the project aims to develop the Menengai geothermal steam field to produce enough steam for 400 MW power generation that will be generated by the private sector as an Independent Power Producer (IPP) or a Public Private Partnership (PPP). The project will be completed by July 2016 and will cost UA 324 million.
