Kenya - Quality Improvement of Primary Teacher, Secondary Science, and Technical Education Project (Education II Project)

The present intervention concerns the Quality Improvement of Primary Teacher, Secondary Science, and Technical Education Project (Education II Project). It should assist the Government in the implementation of educational policies and strategies to the year 2000 and beyond. The project should contribute to the full implementation of the 8-4-4 system introduced in 1985. The quality improvement of education plays a central role in the context of the reform, and the project contributes to its achievement in primary school teacher training, in secondary science teaching, and in technical education. Expanding the access to education particularly in remote areas is another important policy objective, as is the increased enrolment of girls in technical training. The project comprises the following components: (i) Primary Teacher Education, (ii) Science Education in Secondary Schools, (iii) Staff Development; (iv) Technical Education and (v) Project Coordination Committee (PCC) and Project Implementation Units (PIUs).
