Description

Description

This intervention concerns the scaling up of integrated rainwater harvesting and management and complementary livelihood systems in semi-arid districts of Kenya. It is a response to the challenges of rural development in these areas in the context of climate change. The project aims to facilitate the consideration of the stormwater management component in the implementation of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Strategy in drought-prone regions of Kenya and also to address the challenges of water security and food security. In addition to these problems, the project also addresses the problems of environmental degradation, by strengthening the capacity of communities to manage their resources in a sustainable and productive way to cope with the effects of climate change. The project comprises four components: (i) Rainwater Harvesting and Management (RHM) Infrastructure Development for Domestic and Productive Use; (ii) Complementary technologies for Improved Livelihoods and Income Generation; (iii) Knowledge sharing and Policy advocacy and (iv) Project management, monitoring and evaluation.
