Description
Description | Kenya is undertaking the largest housing project in Africa, focusing on building affordable housing units to address the issue of informal settlements. The project involves making public land available free of charge, reducing construction costs through professional cost negotiations and standardization of materials, and establishing a dedicated housing fund financed by local resources. The project has resulted in the construction of 273,000 housing units in the last three years, with 8,000 keys handed over and 55,000 more expected by the end of the year, and a pipeline of 700,000 units. It has mobilized $5 billion from local resources, employed 640,000 young professionals, and aims to reverse slum growth and reduce land fragmentation. |
