Description

Description

The Kenya Green mini grids Facility, financed by DFID (GBP 9.1m) and by the EU-AITF (EUR 5.65m), supports rural electrification through green mini-grids in Kenya that are at pilot, pre-feasibility, pre-development or early development stages. The Facility aims at stimulating sustainable private sector involvement in the green mini-grids sector in Kenya in order to facilitate later their access to other financing sources (impact investors, ElectriFI, local banks potentially financed by SUNREF AFD credit lines). For this purpose, the Facility uses a comprehensive approach to support green mini-grid projects, presented by private developers through call for projects, via two pillars: - technical assistance to improve the project feasibility and viability; - investment or result-based grant to allow them to reach a reasonable financial equilibrium while offering an electricity sale price to the consumer closer to the national tariff. The Facility also enhances public and private actions through sector technical assistance (public policy, sector planning and regulation, studies and workshop on productive uses, gender and social impacts). __________________________ Website Green Mini Grid Facility Kenya (GMG) Link to video - Kenya Green Mini Grid Facility Bringing Power to Rural Kenyans
