The development objective of the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Program for Kenya is to increase sustainable access to improved water and sanitation services (WSS), eliminate open defecation, and improve the financial performance of water services providers in selected counties, including refugee-hosting counties. The Government program, National Water and Sanitation Investment Program (NAWASIP), adopted by the Government of Kenya (GoK) in March 2023, aims to accelerate achievement of universal access to WSS by 2030. The NAWASIP has five components. Component 1: storage infrastructure and bulk water transmission systems; component 2: urban water supply and sanitation services; component 3: rural water supply and sanitation services are primarily focused on improving and expanding infrastructure for reliable, sustainable, and affordable safe water supply and sanitation services to meet the 2030 universal access targets; component 4: support for sector efficiency improvement and policy reforms program; and component 5: program coordination, capacity building and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) are focused on enhancing sector efficiency and service delivery capacity within the devolution framework.
