Description | The Union government led by PM Narendra Modi increased Kerala's railway budget to Rs 3,042 crore for the financial year 2025-26. The government is working on the 3rd and 4th railway lines from North to South Kerala to improve passenger and cargo movement. Key projects discussed include the Angamaly-Erumeli railway project (Sabari rail project), which was first proposed in 1997-98 and had land acquisition completed. The project is planned to be implemented in two phases with 50% cost borne by the Kerala state government. The project includes construction of flyovers and underpasses, with land acquisition notifications issued for the next 70 km. The project had been frozen earlier but is now progressing with shared funding between Railways and Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB). |
