Description

Description

On March 17, 2005 the state-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) sold 2,121,880 shares (49% stake) in Vietnam Khanh Hoa Power Company to 53 investors for US$1.76 million (VND 462 billion) at Hanoi Securities Trading. The average share price was $0.83 (VDN 13,109) per share, with the highest price being $4.7 (VND 74,000), and the lowest price $0.66 (VND 10,500). According to Hanoi Securities Trading Center, out of 53 bidders who successfully purchased shares 50 were private investors. Prior to the divestiture, Khanh Hoa Power Company was a 100% subsidiary of the state-owned EVN, and was primarily responsible for generating electricity for customers in Khanh Hoa province. The company’s business was developing, constructing, operating and managing small hydro and thermal power plants. The partial divestiture of Khanh Hoa Power Company was part of a new government regulation that required selling at least 20% stakes in electricity generation firms to minority shareholders.
