Description

Description

Khanom Electricity Generating Company Limited (KEGCO) developed a new 970 MW gas fired combined cycle power plant, Khanom 4, in Nakhon Si Thammarat province in southern Thailand to replace the existing Khanom 2 and 3 gas-fired combined cycle power plants (total capacity of 749 MW) that KEGCO acquired through divestiture in 1996. KEGCO planned to sell electricity generated to state owned Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for 25 years under a power purchase agreement that went into effect once Khanom 4 began operations in 2016. KEGCO is a wholly owned subsidiary of Electricity Generating Company Limited (EGCO), major independent power producer (IPP) in Thailand. EGCO is listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Its major shareholders are EGAT (25%) and TEPDIA Generating B.V. (24%), a fifty-fifty joint venture between Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) and Mitsubishi Corporation. In December 2013, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) signed a USD 187 million project financing loan with KEGCO for the Khanom 4 power plant. The loan is cofinanced in the amount of USD 622 million by a consortium of banks that included Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, The Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd., Mizuho Bank, Ltd., Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation Limited. http://www.egco.com/en/corperate_profile_history.asp
