Description

On June 2010, Khulna Power Company Limited, KPCL (Bangladesh, 100%) a Bangladeshi Independent Power Producer (Bangladesh, 100%), signed rental agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for the construction and operation for a 5 years term of two Heavy fuel oil (HFO) power plants at Khulna. The contract awarded KPCL to install and operate two systems of 115 and 110 MW, respectively named Khulna KPCL 1 and 2. Under the Rental agreement, KPCL was to supply MW of energy to BPDB for a term of 5 years. The remainder of the energy was to be sold to the public. Following a direct negotiation process, KPCL was authorized to set up 115 and 110 MW HFO power plant at Khluna. The total project cost was 88.75 US millions and reached financial closure in March 2011, according to the signing date. Note that the two power plants started generation in 2011.
