Kiakkai bridge project approved in Thailand

The proposed bridge across the Chao Phraya River to relieve traffic congestion surrounding the new parliament complex has been granted approval by a committee chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. The Kiakkai bridge will relieve traffic congestion on existing bridges, which can only handle 30,000 vehicles per hour compared to a daily traffic volume of nearly 36,000 per hour. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has initially proposed the project after conducting a feasibility study and accounting for public input from stakeholders. The Kiakkai bridge is one of eight infrastructure projects aimed at alleviating traffic congestion around the complex. It will be part of a 5.9-km link is estimated to cost up to THB16 billion.
