KIDS IN DEMOCRACY: Empowering Children’s Voices for Change

The KIDS IN DEMOCRACY project, led by RÁDIO MIÚDOS in collaboration with MINHA TERRA - Federação Portuguesa de Associações de Desenvolvimento Local, endeavors to empower children as active participants in democratic processes, fostering their understanding of rights, amplifying their voices, and promoting civic engagement. Through a Radio Contest framework, children from middle schools engage in radio production, creating content that highlights children's rights and perspectives on democratic participation. The project prioritizes inclusivity, ensuring accessibility and representation. Key activities include training sessions, regional competitions, and a national event, culminating in the dissemination of radio products on various platforms and a visit to the European Parliament for the contest winners. Additionally, the project advocates for policy changes to institutionalize children's participation in democracy, leveraging strategic partnerships, communication efforts, and capacity-building initiatives. By creating a sustainable model for promoting children's rights and democratic values based on a media channel appropriation by children, with the potential for replication and scalability across Europe, the KIDS IN DEMOCRACY project seeks to lay the foundation for a more inclusive and participatory society.
