The project involves the development, construction and operation of the 14MW Kikagati run-of-the-river hydro power plant located on the Kagera River between Uganda and Tanzania. The produced energy will be sold to Uganda Transmission Company through a 20-year PPA. Uganda Transmission Company will then sell half the electricity to Tanzania. This is one of the projects developed under the KfW's Uganda GET FiT. The SPV is Kikagati Power Company Ltd, backed by the Africa Renewable Energy Fund, a fund managed by Berkeley Energy Africa Ltd. The project cost is $ 87 million. The $54 million debt package is provided by the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) in the amount of $27 million and FMO in the amount of $27 million. Financial close was reached on 7 August 2019.
