Description | Kadco upgraded the 3.6 km runway and the terminal facilities, implying a total investment of US$ 11.5 million. Kadco was a consortium between Mott MacDonald (UK), Inter Consult (Tanzania) and the government. The government did not invest on the venture, but it was expected to receive shares in return for the concession. Airport management was provided by Schiphol and operations management by CAA International Services (UK). Financial closure was achieved with loans from the Standard Bank London; outiside investors provided additonal equity and loan capital for developing the airport and real estate. In December 2009, the government decided to end its contract with KADCO since "KADCO failed to deliver as the contract stimulated". |
