Kings Transit Authority - Phase 2- Implementation of Electrifying Kings Transit

Phase 2 is to transition Kings Transit Authority (KTA) fleet to hybrid electric transit vehicles, and supporting infrastructure. Kings Transit will expand the currently owned facility within the boundaries of KTA property. The expansion will be to house up to (7) hybrid-electric buses, and 2 Hybrid-Electric Supervisor Safety Response Units. The expansion will also have a significant section for fleet maintenance and will ultimately extend the usable life of the fleet. Other notable features include: - Public Wi-Fi on the new vehicles. - Upgrading the bus security systems to include real-time camera viewing, automatic Wi-Fi uploading and emergency real-time contact options. - Kings Transit will be installing driver-monitoring devices to provide a safer experience for our passengers. - Implementation of contactless fare options via mobile applications. - Accessibility features such as “Next-Stop Audible Announcements” and “Next Stop LED Signage” This project serves to support the Provincial Sustainable Development Goals Act and mandate to begin significant electrification of public transit. The overall project aligns with the Municipality of the County of Kings’ Planning Strategy and their Climate Mitigation and Asset Action Plan. The goal is to improve capacity of public transit infrastructure, improve quality and safety of existing and future transit system, and improved access to public transit system.
