Description | Kinyara Sugar Factory, a local factory in Masindi, Uganda, has intalled facilities that will enable it to export power to the national grid. The Kinyara Cogeneration plant processes bagasse (a sugar by-product). The first power, 2MW per hour, was delivered to the national grid in January of 2009. By September 2009, the plant was able to produce 14.5MW of electricity. 4MW was sold to the national grid. In 2012, Kinyara announced a major expansion of its processing plant, which would increase power production to 35MW. Of this, 22MW would be sold to the national grid. For this expansion, as well as for previous development work, the project developer applied for UNFCCC CDM financing. Cost was unknown. Estimated was 2 million per MW. |
