KIOO Limited (“Kioo” or the “company”) manufactures food grade glass containers. The company is wholly owned by African Developments Limited, a fully owned associate company of the Madhvani group of Uganda and has been in operation since 1963. Kioo is the only container glass plant in Tanzania and the largest in East Africa. The factory site is situated in Industrial Area of Dar es Salaam. The company owns 280 acres of good quality sand deposits with a modern sand processing plant at Vianzi Site about 35 km South of Dar es Salaam along Kilwa Road. The company also owns a fleet of trucks to deliver glass containers to its customers in the East, Central and Southern Africa Regions. Its customer base is comprised of major beverage multinationals.The project involves a US$21 million A loan to Kioo as corporate finance to support the company’s planned capital investment program in its existing plant in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Kioo’s existing furnaces will come up for refurbishment entailing major capital expenditures. There will also be investments made in new machinery and in technology to reduce emission levels and to increase energy efficiency and expand output/capacity. Additionally, there will be other capital expenses including the acquisition of transport equipment, installation of a modern, energy efficient and improved technology sieve sand processing plant and various upgrades to the existing facilities.
