Description | The development objective of Outer Islands Transport Infrastructure Investment Project for Kiribati is to improve the connectivity, safety and climate resilience of transport infrastructure on Selected Outer Islands, and in the event of an eligible crisis or emergency, to provide an immediate response to the eligible crisis or emergency. This project has four components. 1) The first component, Safe Inter-Island Navigation, aims to carry out activities to improve the safety of inter-island navigation. 2) The second component, Resilient Outer Island Access Infrastructure, has the following subcomponents: (i) Improvement of Ship Safety Navigation; (ii) Rehabilitation of Island Access Infrastructure; and (iii) Rehabilitation of Lagoon Crossings. 3) The third component, Strengthening the Enabling Environment, has the following subcomponents: (i) Institutional Strengthening; (ii) Operational Support for the Outer Islands Implementation Unit (OIIU); and (iii) Operational Support for the Kiribati Fiduciary Services Unit (KFSU). 4) The fourth component, Contingent Emergency Response, would draw from the uncommitted resources under the project from other project components to cover emergency response. |
