Kisumu Young Agropreneurs (KIYA) Urban Farming Project

under construction

The Kisumu Young Agropreneurs (KIYA) project is an urban farming initiative in the Nyalenda slums of Kisumu city. It involves training youth in agriculture and food systems, turning organic waste into compost and black soldier fly products, and promoting sustainable farming practices including poultry farming, vegetable growing, and black soldier fly farming. The project also includes training in public primary schools and the establishment of an evaporative charcoal cooler and an aggregation centre for African leafy vegetables to reduce post-harvest losses and improve market access.
