Description | This project includes the development of Kivalliq Hydro-Fibre Link from Manitoba to Nunavut. The transmission line will be 1,200-kilometre long with the capacity of 150 megawatt of hydroelectricity. The line will be joining Gillam (Manitoba), to four Nunavut communities on the northwestern shore of Hudson Bay, as well as inland to Baker Lake.This project would bring renewable, sustainable and reliable hydroelectricity to modernize electricity systems and potentially reduce reliance on diesel power generation while supporting the economic interest of Indigenous Peoples in remote communities.Fibre optic cabling is included in the project. This would bring broadband connectivity to the region for the first time, enhancing telecommunications services for residents, businesses and for public service delivery. |
