Description
Description | The government of Malaysia awarded KLIA dedicated highway to Konsortium Lapangan Terjaya (KLT) under a 33 year BOT (build, operate, and transfer) contract in July 2003. After the contract expires in 2036, the highway was to be transferred to the government. The highway, also known as Kuala Lumpur - Putrajaya - KL International Airport Highway, was desinged as 26 kilometers and consisted of three lanes. The total project cost was estimated at RM2 billion (US$602.4 million), including RM600 million (US$180.7 million) to acquire land for the highway. The Government agreed to finance part of the construction cost for the first section. The Government provided the consortium with a soft loan of RM215 million (US$64.8 million). The rest of the cost was to be financed by shareholders' equity and bank borrowings. The project started in 2003 and was scheduled for completion in March 2006. The total capacity of the highway was expected to reach to some 190,000 vehicles daily by the year 2020. KLT's main shareholders were Bright Focus Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Maju Holdings Sdn Bhd with 51 percent, Anson Perdana Bhd with 30 percent and Hi-Summit Construction Sdn Bhd with 19 percent.
