Description

Description

The project will complete upgrades to the K’omoks First Nation Community Complex and the addition of a Food Security Storage to the Complex to provide dry storage, walk-in fridge and freezer space for Traditional Food, Social and Cultural (FSC) foods harvested by the community. This project will further increase the Nation’s resiliency. The Complex houses the Nation’s Community Hall, Health Centre and Administration Offices. The need for food storage infrastructure has been identified on the KFN Amenities & Opportunities List, a need which was further intensified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Community efforts to provide food services to young families, elders and members on social assistance and disability throughout the pandemic were hampered due to lack of freezer and fridge space. The Food Storage Addition will provide members with connections to culture and wellness through traditional foods. The Community Complex is the hub and all encompassing for Community meetings and gatherings. The project works include: - Replace existing HVAC unit in the administration building. - supply and installation of an approx.. 575 sqft Food Security Storage addition to the Community Centre; - supply and installation of Cooler/Freezer Refrigeration System; - supply and installation of replacement VRF heating and cooling system for the Administration Building; - supply and installation of Solar PV system on Administration Building; - supply and installation of Solar PV system on Community Centre; and, - all related works.
