Description | The Mumbai-based Zoom Developers was awarded the project to rehabilitate an existing 355-meters long bridge, to construct a new 387-meters long bridge and operate both facilities for a 10-year period (the construction works are predicted to last during the first two years of the project). The Karanodai Bridge project will facilitate the link between Chennai and Bangalore, Mumbai, New Delhi and Calcutta. In the first phase of the project, the sponsor will repair and upgrade the existing diversion road, which will be closed once the works on the bridges are concluded. During the second phase of the project, the existing bridge will be repaired (expected completion date: Jul. 2000), while the new bridge will be constructed in the third phase. The project was handed-over in Jan. 1999 and the construction works started in the same month. |
