Malaysia Mining created a project company, Konsortium Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim, in partnership with PNB subsidiary, Dasarmas, to build and operate the toll road. The 30 year contract runs from the start of operations in 1996. The toll road is currently 17km long, but the Malaysian government has discussed awarding a contract to extend the road. The road cost M$250 million (US$99.4 million). The highway links Kulim Hi-Tech park with a container terminal at Butterworth. On 13 March 2008, PLUS Expressways Berhad (PEB) acquired the Konsortium Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim (KLBK) Sdn Bhd ("KLBK") following the conclusion of the Share Sale Agreement dated 18 December 2007 between PLUS Expressways Berhad (PEB) and Malaysia Mining Corporation (MMC). PEB is a wholly owned company of UEM
