Description
Description | Solar Millennium from Germany, through its subsidiary Flagsol, developed the 150MW Kuraymat power plant, utilizing a combination of CSP and CCNG technology. Flagsol partnered with Orascom Construction (Egypt) during construction and will operate the plant for two years after commissioning. The project includes 2,000 collector units with over 53,000 parabolic mirrors. The project is located in Kuraymat, 100 kilometers south of Cairo. The project consisted of 74.4MW gas turbine, 59.5MW steam turbine (total 133.9MW) and a CSP element of 19.2MW. Total output of the solar element was expected at 852,000 MWh/yr. The O&M contract is held by Orascom Construction in cooperation with Flagsol, who had 6 engineers on site. Flagsol won the contract after an international tender held by the Egyptian Energy Authority, NREA. The CCNG element was developed b Iberdrola, from Spain. Construction started in January 2009, commissioning in 2012. Final ownership was to be New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). FC was estimated at January 2010 (25%). Total project cost was EUR250 million ($314.7 million), of which 30% was reportedly attributable to the CSP element (EUR75 million, $94.4 million). Part of the financing was provided by the GEF, administred by the IBRD - $49 million. The remaining foreign currency debtwas financed by JBIC (Japan Bank for International Cooperation).
