Description

Description

The 42nd and 43rd editions of the Hamburg International Short Film Festival (Kurzfilm Festival Hamburg) will showcase a diverse selection of short films, with a focus on European audiovisual works. The festival expects over 16,000 on-site visitors and 6,000 online attendees. It aims to attract not only short film enthusiasts but also new audiences through a dynamic, multi-faceted program that includes film screenings, exhibitions, music performances, workshops, and panel discussions on cultural topics. The festival’s children’s and youth section, Mo&Friese, reaches a 4500 persons strong audience as young as four, emphasizing film education in collaboration with schools and daycare institutions across Germany. By offering its program online in addition to cinema screenings, the festival extends its reach to national and international audiences, including over 950 industry professionals who gain access to European audiovisual works they might not otherwise see. The festival maintains a strong year-round presence through its own events (both online and offline), partnerships with European film festivals, and the Kurzfilm Agentur Hamburg, which distributes selected short films to cinemas, online platforms, TV stations, and VOD services worldwide. Additionally, the Hamburg Shortfilm School provides workshops for schools and young audiences throughout the year. Committed to sustainability, the festival prioritizes eco-friendly practices and is a signatory of the Green Charter for Film Festivals. The festival has a strong focus on fair, balanced working conditions in a diverse environment. In 2025 the festival was awarded the “Fair Festival Award” as Germany’s film festival with the best working conditions.
