Kwakiutl First Nation - Administration and Gymnasium Rooftop Replacement and Solar Photovoltaic Retrofit

The rooftop of Kwakiutl Band and Administration and Gymnasium building needs to be retrofitted. The roof was retrofitted with a new membrane in spring 2020 and continues to leak. This has led to closure of the gymnasium and has led to moisture issues throughout the building. This project will retrofit the roof of the Administration and Gymnasium with a new roof, which will include a solar photovoltaic (PV) array. The project will improve occupancy comfort by creating a safer work and recreation environment and support the Nation’s clean energy goals. The occupancy comfort and availability of the Administration and Gymnasium building is severely impacted by the leaking roof. The Nation has had to close the gymnasium and several offices. The roof needs to be replaced to improve occupancy comfort and provide a safe environment to work, learn, and participate in cultural activities. This paired with high hydro bills to power and heat the building further impresses the need to retrofit the building with a new roof and solar PV array, the latter improving energy efficiency of the building. Project works include: - design; - solar PV components including modules, inverters, racking, cables, controllers; - roofing materials; and - all related works.
