Kwikwetlem First Nation and Coquitlam - Joint Flood Mitigation Program

The City of Coquitlam and k¿ik¿¿¿¿¿m First Nation would like to complete coordinated and shared flood protection improvements along the confluence of the lower Coquitlam River and the Fraser River, which involves upgrading and integrating an existing dike network. The proposed dike upgrades would be phased as necessary, and would also consider the following: • Access and egress into Colony Farm and k¿ik¿¿¿¿¿m lands • Fish habitat improvements • Protection of the k¿ik¿¿¿¿¿m cemetery • Protection of the k¿ik¿¿¿¿¿m transformer stone • Consideration of a proposed new dock/boom at the Fraser River and Coquitlam River confluence • Archaeological investigation • Existing and anticipated siltation within the Coquitlam River; and • Coordination as appropriate with Port Coquitlam, Metro Vancouver, BC Hydro, and CP Railway (considering that the dikes on the east side of the Coquitlam River would not be upgraded as part of this grant application). The physical works would include the following: • Upgraded linear dikes, including armouring adjacent IR#1 where necessary • New linear dikes (if necessary), including consideration of access and egress into Colony Farm Regional Park and k¿ik¿¿¿¿¿m lands • Fish habitat improvements • Upgraded flood box(es) (if necessary)
