The Second Kyushu Thermal Power Project for Japan is the first stage of the Shinkokura thermal power project, with an installed capacity of 156 MW, which is being constructed by the Kyushu Power Company near Kokura in northern Kyushu. The Kyushu Electric Power Company serves the entire island of Kyushu and neighboring small islands. The northern part of Kyushu is one of the most highly industrialized areas in Japan. The project will help meet the increased demand for electrical power, which will consist of 636 MW of thermal power plant and 371 MW of hydroelectric power plant, in addition to its necessary expansion of transmission and distribution facilities. The project which is part of the Kyushu Power Company's expansion program, is necessary to meet the expected electrical power increase in the area.
