The project contributes to the implementation of the Project of Common European Interest (PCI) 13.2 ‘Aramis’, which concerns the construction of CO2 transport infrastructure consisting of a trunkline system (~200 km length) connected to a shipping terminal with buffer storage facilities and other CO2 transport infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. The Aramis project envisages a new high-capacity trunkline (22 Mt/y) to transport CO2 from the Port of Rotterdam to the geological storage sites that are located on the Dutch Continental Shelf. The first phase of the Aramis project will be designed for a minimum of 7.5 Mt/y capacity, with the potential to scale up in steps to 22 Mt/y total capacity. This CEF-funded project comprises the detailed design, purchase of material and construction of the L10-R Hub Platform, which is a CO2 storage linked to Aramis, unmanned platform located on the Dutch continental shelf of the North Sea, containing several depleted natural gas fields and construction of an offshore spurline (approx. 23 km 20’’ carbon steel offshore pipeline connecting the Aramis Distribution Hub Platform to the new L10-R Hub Platform). Upon completion of the project (also including not covered by CEF grant new additional injection wells) the CO2 storage facility at the L10-R platform will be ready to enter into operation with a starting storage capacity of 2 Mt/y of CO2.
