Description | The Esmeralda Power Project for Colombia will provide a loan of US $4.6 million to the Central Hidroelectrica de Caldas Limitada (CHEC) to finance the construction of a hydroelectric facility. CHEC was established in 1950 and supplies electric power to the Departamento de Caldas. Currently, it does not have enough power capacity to meet consumer demands. The project will help to alleviate this problem by: 1) constructing a hydroelectric power plant with two units of 13,300 kw and its related 110 kv transmission lines and substations; 2) expanding 33 and 13.2 kv sub-transmission lines; and 3) rehabilitating and expanding a number of distribution systems. These new additions will increase the power capacity of the CHEC in order to meet consumer needs. |
