Description

La Joya was a 9.6 MW run-of-river plant in Arequipa region that was expected to displace 41,987t/y of CO2. As a result, the anticipated project was registered as Clean Development Mechanism in the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in November 2008. The project took advantage of existing irrigation infrastructure in the Chili river district. In April 2009, the project was awarded to Generadora de Energía del Perú (Gepsa)[Peru, 100%] under a license scheme and was given a definitive concession by Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mines. By the time of the awarding, the works on the project were 98% complete. The investment figure was not available. Electricity output was to be sold to Peru’s national grid. In December 2009, the plant became operational and was nearly running at full capacity. July 2012: total investment ESTIMATED at 9.6MW x 3.2 million per MW (average for LAC), $30.7 million.
